LA MARQUE — The La Marque school board will hold an emergency meeting at 6:30 p.m. to approve urgent repairs to the gym floor at La Marque High School, board President Nakisha Paul said.
A boys’ basketball game between Ball High and La Marque was called off on Dec. 20 after a malfunctioning air-conditioning system caused players to slip and fall on the gym floor. A Tors’ player was reportedly injured after taking a spill.
Under state law, the school board can hold an emergency meeting if immediate action is required to resolve an imminent threat to public safety or a reasonably unforeseeable situation. The school district gave the two hours’ public notice legally required for the emergency meeting.
“Students’ safety is our first priority, and it’s most expedient to get the repairs done while school is out,” Paul said.
The next scheduled game in the gym is set for Jan. 7, when the Lady Cougars take on Stafford.
