GALVESTON — As temperatures dropped late Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, state road crews dispatched trucks to the Galveston Causeway after ice was reported on the bridge.

David Popoff, the emergency management coordinator for Galveston County, said ice was forming on the left lanes (inside lanes) of the bridge's inbound and outbound lanes.

The Texas Department of Transportation dispatched deicing trucks to the lanes, Popoff said.

The main connector between the island and the mainland remained open as of 11:20 p.m.

Crews were also working to put sand on the Harborside Drive/51st Street Viaduct in Galveston.
