BACLIFF — Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning that sent a man to the hospital.

Mathew Hodge, 28, told investigators that at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, another man kicked in the door to his house in the 4800 block of Sixth Street in Bacliff.

Neighbors told investigators that they saw the commotion and that the shooting victim and the gunman were outside of the house when the shooting happened.

Capt. Barry Cook, said the motive for the shooting is unclear and that investigators are trying to piece together what exactly happened. Hodge was taken to The University of Texas Medical Branch's John Sealy Hospital where he was in stable condition.

Investigators are trying to track down the gunman. No one had been arrested in connection to the shooting as of Wednesday morning, Cook said.
