KC and the Sunshine Band

The secret musical guest of the San Luis Salute was KC and the Sunshine Band. More than 1,600 guests put on their Boogie Shoes for the show.

More than 1,600 guests, acrobats, art cars, roller skaters and some booty shaking to the music of KC and the Sunshine Band.

The 2014 San Luis Salute indeed lived up to its name Pop.

Guests were greeted to images of pop art and a DJ spinning tunes.

When the curtain to the ballroom opened the bright oranges, yellows and reds did indeed pop.

Mardi Gras' largest ball hosted each year by Tilman and Paige Fertitta benefits UTMB. Funds this year will go to the construction fund of the Jennie Sealy Hospital tower.

Over the years more than $1 million has been raised through the Salute for UTMB.

Our night began with a private reception at Fertitta's yacht "The Boardwalk" and the introduction of the Knights of Momus duchesses.

Joining the group for the Six Million Dollar Man, Lee Majors.

Back at the Island Convention Center the party lived up to its billing as the wildest, most stunning event in the region.

It is the only gala I've ever attended where everyone hits the dance floor from the start.

San Luis Chef Brian Robinson cooked up a scrumptious meal and the desserts were to die for.

The secret musical act this year was the before-mentioned KC and the Sunshine Band. Front man Harry Casey is still going at 63 years old.

We spoke earlier this week and he has his first album in 10 years scheduled for release next month. It will be a two-disc set with some original music and some remakes of some 1960s classics.

"If I could, the whole album would be Motown songs," Casey said during our interview on Wednesday.

There are some Motown remakes, but also some Bob Dylan and other artists on the album.

More on my interview with Casey in Sunday's edition.
