The Galveston County Food Bank held its annual Founders Day celebration on Saturday. The event mark's the vision of the Food Bank's founders Pastor Bill Ritter, Rev. Posy Jackson and the Food Bank's first executive director Mark Davis.

Ritter and Davis first thought of the effort and created Gleanings from the Harvest, a small food pantry on Galveston Island.

In the 11 years since, that concept grew to become a countywide organization that provides food services for more than 40 community groups across the county.

As part of the celebration on Saturday, the Food Bank's partners The Lighthouse Charity Team served free meals to the residents of the neighborhood that surrounds the Food Bank's location in downtown Texas City.

Many of those residents are also people who receive assistance from the Food Bank through its community partners.
