GALVESTON — The 18th annual Wild Game and BBQ Cook-off, benefiting the Yaga’s Children’s Fund, will be May 9-10 at Pier 21 and Harborside Drive.

Visit www.ycfund.org to register your team or buy tickets to the exclusive sponsor party with live music from Vegas Stars on May 9. Everyone is invited to participate.

The competition is an excellent way for backyard chefs, sportsmen and women, and outdoor enthusiasts to show off their culinary skills and enjoy some good old-fashioned fun, fellowship and food.

From the free children’s area to the VIP Sponsor Party and everything in between, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy at the World Wild Game BBQ Cook-off.

In addition to enjoying a great time, by registering as a team or sponsor for this year’s event you will become a part of history. In the Wild Game and BBQ Cook-off’s 18th year, with the help of teams, sponsors and you, the Yaga’s Children’s Fund will surpass $1 million donated to Galveston County Children’s Charities.

All proceeds from this annual event benefit various children’s charities of Galveston County. The 2013 event raised more than $127,000 for 20 charities, including Gulf Coast Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Advocacy Center for Children of Galveston County, Family Service Center of Galveston County, Resource and Crisis Center, and Santa Fe Special Olympics, to name a few.

May 10 begins with the Run Wild 5K starting at Float Patio & Pool Bar. Registration is available now.

There is plenty for children to do in the giant free Children’s Area. Moonwalks, face painters, pony rides, petting zoo, arts and crafts, and plenty of other activities are available for all children starting at noon.

Hungry? Volunteers will be selling mouthwatering barbecue sandwiches for a nominal fee. While eating, relax and enjoy more great music from talented local bands.

That afternoon at Pier 21, festivalgoers of all ages can stroll freely among the rows of smoking pits competing in six cooking divisions: chicken, ribs, brisket, seafood, a ladies category and of course — wild game. First- through fifth-place finishes will be awarded in each division as well as a trophy going to the cook team with best showmanship.
