Freaky Tiki

Say what? The last thing I think about when hearing the fabulous "I Have a Dream" speech is an empanada, samosa or cherry pie.

Kind of a stretch, of the pie crust dough and of the imagination, isn't it? I think it will "pan" out, though - pardon the pun. Many odd things still seem to manage to catch on.

I'm sure at first the thought of pink ribbons wasn't associated with cancer treatment. But, now it's a highly recognized symbol. Yet and still, I've always associated pie with Thanksgiving. To have mom make an array of pies and dressing is my 1st association with the concept.

Now, I'm thinking...Maybe MLK Day should be associated with pillow cases. All the various colors and designs on pillow cases (cross stitch, fabric type, color and so on)...all that could be associated with "I Have a Dream". Then, we put our pillow cases on our pillows to honor MLK and we "dream" of a world where people are judged by the "content of their character", not color - and so on. Just like we don't judge a pillow case by its color, it can be just as good of a pillow case in ANY color.

ole dad

I think the pie social is a good idea; good idea on the pillow case also. Bringing his memory into the home and making it more personable with the family. I still have trouble listening to "I have a dream" without tears coming to my eyes. Thank you MLK.
