Clear Lake’s Congregation Shaar Hashalom will have its community, second-night Passover Seder at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 16020 El Camino Real in Houston. The Seder will be led by Rabbi Stuart Federow.

A kosher dinner in the Ashkenazi tradition will include chicken or vegetarian entree, roasted vegetables, iced tea and dessert. The cost for members is $22 for adults and $11 for children between 6 and 12 years old; for nonmembers it is $25 for adult and $13 for a child between 6 and 12 years old. Children 6 and younger, accompanied by an adult, are free.

“You don’t have to be Jewish to attend the Seder,” said Federow. “It’s a celebration of freedom, of an event that happened 3,000 years ago that we Jews have commemorated every year since.”

Look for good news on Page A1 from Galveston’s historic St. Mary Cathedral Basilica. The cathedral has been undergoing restoration since it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ike. The Archdiocese has given an update on the work. On May 4, 1847 Pope Pius IX declared it to be “The Mother Church” of the newly formed Catholic Diocese of Galveston-Houston, which at that time took in all of Texas.

Since then, St. Mary has withstood war, storms and other disasters both great and small, though Ike and age and termites eventually removed the structure from regular service.

The Emulating the King revival and concert will be at 7 p.m. April 17-18 and at 3 p.m. April 19 at Dickinson’s God’s Household of Faith, 2308 22nd St.

“This event will make its splash onto the Galveston County community,” said the Rev. S. Mark Haywood II, pastor. “You will not want to miss this mighty move of God through power-packed preaching. The concert will feature the renowned recording artist Swoop Brown and the singing group Armed and Faithful. You will not want to miss this explosive move of the Holy Spirit.”
