The Beta Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., organized in 1938 on the island, will have its 75th annual Spring Fundraiser Gala at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Grand Ballroom of The San Luis Hotel, 5228 Seawall Blvd., in Galveston.

Shirley Wells Fisher, who graduated as valedictorian from Central High School and earned degrees from Prairie View A&M and Texas Woman’s University, as well as working as a teacher and administrator in the Galveston and Dallas independent school districts, will be the keynote speaker.

Cops — and mudbugs?

The public is invited to the 11th annual Kemah Cops and Crawfish Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kemah Community Center, 800 Harris Ave.

Ja-Ga Reggae Festival

The second annual Ja-Ga Reggae Festival will start at noon Saturday and Sunday at Beach Central Park, 21st Street and Seawall Boulevard, in Galveston.

The event will feature more than 18 different musical acts, food, vendors and more.

Admission is $12 per person per day or $20 for a two-day pass.

The circus is in town

The Bayside Lions Club will present the Carson & Barnes Circus at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Bayshore Spillway Park, 5437 E. FM 646, in San Leon.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 per child by noon today or $16 for adults and $10 per child at the gate.

Attendees also are invited to the tent raising at 10 a.m. and the parade at 11 a.m. Saturday. The parade will start at Maranatha Baptist Church, 2361 E. Bayshore Drive and end at the park.

GIAA final concert of the season

The Galveston Island Arts Academy will present its last concert of the season at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Moody Mansion, 2618 Broadway, in Galveston.
