The newly formed Galveston County Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will present its inaugural Boots & BBQ fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 17 on the grounds of the beautiful Stringfellow Orchards, owned by Sam and Doris Collins, 7902 state Highway 6, in Hitchcock.

The event, which will honor Chris and Stephanie Doyle, will feature a Texas-sized menu of barbecue prepared by the Lighthouse Charity Team, and country music for you to boogie down to — in your boots, or course!

Big Summer Bash

The second annual Big Summer Bash, presented by the L&G Steppers, will be from 7 p.m. until Saturday at Mr. Calvin’s, 6020 N. Martin Luther King, in Hitchcock.

So if you know how to do the Houston 2 Step, line dance, Urban Detroit Ballroom dance, DFW Swing Out, or the infamous Chicago 2 Step styles of dancing, pull out those dancing shoes — and get to steppin’!

Bayou Theater at UHCL new season on deck

Single tickets go on sale Tuesday for the 2017-18 season at the University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater, 2700 Bay Area Blvd., in Houston.

The theater will present 10 performances which will include a mix of classical, blues, bluegrass, South Asian and distinctly Texas music. “Mercury: The Orchestra Redefined” kicks off the season Aug. 31.

Ticket prices vary by performance, but if you want to attend all 10 shows, it’ll cost $150 per person or $100 with a UHCL student ID.
