Children's choir

The Houston Children’s Choir will perform 4 p.m. Sunday at The Grand 1894 Opera House.

If you’re looking for a way to stay cool this weekend, make sure you take the entire family to The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Postoffice St. in Galveston, as the Houston Children’s Chorus presents “The Grand Ole Opry” at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Founded in 1989, the choir, which is made up of 100 students, will complete its annual weeklong Galveston residency and workshop for third- to sixth- grade students from Galveston and Harris counties with this lively summer pops concert.

Tickets are $15 per person. To purchase tickets, visit, or call 409-765-1894 or 800-821-1894.

Get ready to

‘wobble, wobble’

For those of you out there that like to line dance (I do on occasion, too), get ready to get your “Wobble” and “Cupid Shuffle” on — but in a more “heavenly” way.

The “Stepping into Heaven” Line Dance will be from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. today at McKinney Memorial United Methodist Church, 1607 Nashby, in La Marque.

Don’t worry if you don’t know how to line dance; there will be instructors helping those of us who aren’t to familiar with the dances.

Admission is $10 per person in advance or $15 at the door.

For tickets, call Demetra Hunter, 409-877-8337, or Shanisha Greer, 409-256-0526.

‘Peter Pan’

debuts Monday

The Summer Drama Academy at the Bay Area Harbour Playhouse will present “Peter Pan” at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays only Monday through Aug. 1 at 3803 state Highway 3 in Dickinson.

For tickets and reservations, call 281-337-7469.

Miss Kemah and Miss Kemah Teen Pageant

Every little girl dreams of one day being Miss America or Miss USA. We’ve all done the beauty queen wave in our mirrors. And on occasion, I’m sure some of you have gotten in trouble for playing dress-up with your mother’s makeup and clothes (I sure did!).

Well, if you’ve always wanted to see a pageant in action, make sure you get your tickets to the 2014 Miss Kemah and Miss Kemah Teen Pageant set for July 25-27 at the Boardwalk FantaSea Yacht Charters, 555 Bradford, Slip No. 1, in Kemah.

The event will include the Fabulous FantaSea Swimsuit Competition, which will be judged by celebrity media judges.

For information, visit or call 281-780-4811.

Also, don’t forget about the Rock the Dock concerts out on the Boardwalk from 6:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. Thursdays at 215 Kipp Ave.

For the lineup, visit or call 281-334-9880.
