KEMAH — So you have dreams of becoming the next great singer, but you didn’t get to try out for American Idol? Don’t fret. You’re invited and encouraged to tryout for “Bay Area Houston Idol” beginning Tuesday at Jackie’s Brickhouse, 1053 Marina Bay Blvd in Kemah.

A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Community in Schools — Bay Area.

The preliminary round events are free and will take place Tuesdays through Feb. 4. The semifinal round will be Feb. 11 and the final round will be Feb. 18. The semifinal and final rounds will have a small admission fee.

The contestants will start singing at 7 p.m. for each round.

“We started the Bay Area Houston Idol in January of 2013 and didn’t know how the community would respond to it. We were completely overwhelmed and thrilled at the fact that everyone embraced it, even if they were only coming to watch the competitors,” said Erin Webb, director for the Bay Area Houston Idol. “The public became instantly hooked and had to keep coming back to see who would take home the grand prize.”

The competition still has a few spaces left for contestants. And, of course prizes, — including cash — will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners. To sign up, visit

“This year, we have come back even stronger,” Webb saod. “We have an amazing venue this year and even have Brooke Meris from Sony Music and Columbia Records, Justin van Sant, as well as Dave Morales from Fox 26 coming out as celebrity judges,.

“Our community is filled with amazing talent, and I truly believe one of our winners will be a world-known recording artist in the very near future.”
