If you’re wanting to start celebrating Mardi Gras early — here’s your chance!

If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet to the Rotary Club of Texas City’s eighth annual Mardi Gras Mainland Gala, you still have time.

The gala will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Doyle Convention Center, 2010 Fifth Ave. N., in Texas City.

Tickets, which are $75 per person, include dinner, an open bar, and music by The Line Up.

If you can’t make it to the gala, then make sure you go to the parade and fun run at noon Saturday.

Not only is Texas City celebrating Mardi Gras early, but so will the Krewe du Lac Mardi Gras Krewe in Kemah.

The Krewe will have its annual Mardi Gras Ball at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Aquarium Restaurant on the Kemah Boardwalk, 215 Kipp Ave. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m.

The ball is open to the public, and tickets, which are $75 per person, can be purchased at the door. The evening will include a dinner buffet, dancing and beads. Endless Summer will perform.

They also will have a Mardi Gras parade at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 3 beginning across from T-Bone Tom’s on state Highway 146 in Kemah.

The Grand 1894 Opera House will present German Cornejo’s “Tango Fire” at 8 p.m. today at 2020 Postoffice St. in Galveston.

Cornejo, and his sensuous partner, Gisela Galeassi, will be joined by an outstanding cast including World Tango Champions and dancers from some of the greatest Tango houses in Buenos Aires.

Acting Bad Productions will present the “Just As I Am” stage play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell Baptist Church, 316 S. Pine Road, in Texas City.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door (ages 15 and younger are $10 each and only available at the door). A portion of the proceeds will benefit the church’s inaugural teen summit.

Singer and songwriter, Lisa Morales, will bring her blend of southwestern rhythms, colors and flavors to the Old Quarter Acoustic Café, 413 20th St., in Galveston.

The performance, which will begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, also will feature the release of her second solo album “Luna Negra and the Daughter of the Sun.”

The Galveston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will present its annual “Red and White Luncheon: Rubies and Diamonds, A Love Affair,” which is an afternoon of love and romance celebrating African-American couples married 50 years or more at noon Feb. 17 at the Island Hilton Hotel, 5400 Seawall Blvd., in Galveston.

Tickets are only $35 per person and a table of 10 will be available for $340. Thursday is the deadline to purchase tickets.

The luncheon will benefit the Jessie McGuire-Dent Scholarship Fund to assist Galveston County seniors matriculating to college and community service projects sponsored by the sorority. The guest speaker for the luncheon will be the Rev. E. R. Johnson. John Cook also will be a featured guest.

This year’s honorees are: Clarence III and Ann Caroline, of La Marque; the Rev. Vincent and Georgia Fontenot; Wilson and Eloise Josey; and Ben and Geraldine Marshall, all of Texas City; and Willis Sr. and Marie Vallier, of Galveston.

Tickets are now available for the Assistance League of the Bay Area’s annual charity fundraising event, which will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Waters Edge, 3901 NASA Road 1, in El Lago.

Carnevale di Venezia is the theme for the evening, which helps the organization with its six philanthropic programs that benefit families and children in Galveston and Harris counties.

Tickets are $125 per person and include entertainment, dinner, dancing, a raffle, an introduction of the Royal Court and a fireworks display.
