GALVESTON — Galveston Island is a seafood lover’s paradise all year round, and this September, Yaga’s Entertainment Inc. will bring foodies a little taste of heaven at the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival running Sept. 26-28.

Featuring some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer, festivities begin at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 with the free Boat & RV Show along with various vendor exhibits and concludes with the VIP Sponsor Party and Texas Size Shrimp Dinner in Saengerfest Park, honoring the sponsors and cook-off teams, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

VIP Sponsor Party tickets are available to the public for $50 and include a Texas Size Shrimp Dinner and libations. Tickets can be purchased at www.yagaspresents.com/shrimpfestival/friday.

Sept. 27 events begin with the Shrimp Scamper 5K Fun Run down Seawall Boulevard at 9 a.m. All fitness levels and ages are invited to join in this noncompetitive event. Costumes and teams are encouraged.

Run entry fee includes event T-shirt, gumbo tasting cup and a festive Shrimp Scamper surprise.

The Shrimp Gumbo Cook-Off, free Boat & RV Show, vendor exhibits and live music will be in the Historic Stand District at 10 a.m. Sept. 27.

Visitors to the festival will be able to purchase a gumbo sampling cup in advance for $8 for a limited time only. This cup will allow guests to sample gumbo from more than 60 cook-off teams comprised of amateur and professional cookers from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 27.

Other events on Sept. 27 include the Lil’ Shrimps Parade at 3 p.m., sponsored by Galveston Shrimp Co., with festive floats, marching bands and bead tossing. The Lil’ Shrimps Kids Area will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

Festivities continue Sept. 28 with the free Boat & RV Show, Lil’ Shrimps Kids Area and Sunday Funday events in the Park.

Portion of event proceeds will benefit the University of Texas Medical Branch, Ronald McDonald House and Yaga’s Children’s Fund.
