TEXAS CITY — It’s cars, guitars and a good old-fashioned community get-together at the second Lone Star Deluxe vintage car, truck, motorcycle and music expo on April 26.
This will be the festival’s second year at the rebuilt Showboat Pavilion, 416 Sixth St. N., and renovated Sixth Street in Texas City.
About 1,000 visitors came to take a look at the 70 cars and 10 motorcycles — along with the bands and pinup contest — at last year’s inaugural festival, organizer Sam Navarro said.
He’s hoping more people come this year as the homegrown festival — Navarro and his partners, Cody and Monica Lea and Clint de Vries all live in Texas City — puts an even greater emphasis on things local.
“It‘s the only show that’s this open, that’s this new, that’s promoting this many local artists, local musicians, local businesses, local vendors,” Navarro said.
There’s been great support from the city and from local business such as US Backline, Push Play Designs and clothing line Glory Seeker, that have jumped on board to help the festival, he said.
This year will also feature six bands, five from Texas City and one from Galveston, playing at the Showboat Theater, including Navarro’s band, The Lone Star Devils.
“We wanted to promote local entertainment,” Navarro said.
The vehicles in the show will all be pre-1972 and the festival is a chance to highlight some of the old vehicles and old school Americana to the city’s renovated downtown.
“We have a great setting out there with the Showboat,” Navarro said. “The city has done a great job getting it ready.”
The outdoor part of the festival is free. Admission to see the bands and the contests is $10. Navarro said he hopes folks who visit the festival will pitch in to help keep the event going in the future.
“What my team is trying to do is support local businesses, local artists and our community,” he said. “We need our community, our locals, to support us. Buy a T-shirt, buy a sticker, buy a $10 wristband to support those bands because that is how we can keep this thing going.”
