GALVESTON — Island East End Theatre Co. will have open auditions for all roles in its upcoming production of “Sweet Charity” (book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields) at 7 p.m. April 27-28 at 2317 Mechanic St.

Sweet Charity runs July 18 through Aug. 16. Rehearsals will begin June 1. ETC artistic director Kim Mytelka will direct the production. Jennifer Daugherty is the choreographer and Carol Daubert is musical director.

Charity Hope Valentine who, despite her job as a dancer at the seedy ballroom, is an eternal optimist who loves too much. She just happens to be the unluckiest romantic in New York City. The musical Sweet Charity is a touching and humorous look at her trials and tribulations.  “Sweet Charity” includes hits such as “Hey, Big Spender,” “Rhythm of Life” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.”

Those auditioning are asked to come with a prepared song from the musical and to bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Those auditioning will be expected to sing with the accompanist. Also, take a current headshot and resume, as well as comfortable shoes and clothing for the required dance portion of the audition.

“Sweet Charity” is set in New York City. The theatre and production team want the cast to reflect the city’s diversity. Therefore, all roles are available to actors from all ethnic and racial groups.
