Silambam Dance Co. will present “Maya — A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the historic Scottish Rite Cathedral, 2128 Church St., in Galveston.

The production will feature a musical score ranging from excerpts from Felix Mendelssohn’s symphonic score and Indian to contemporary music blending eastern and western influences.

Las Vegas Night fundraiser

Get ready to gamble the night away — for fun that is — at the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo’s annual Las Vegas Night fundraiser from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Ed Pickett Memorial Hall at the Galveston County Fairgrounds, 10 Jack Brooks Road, in Hitchcock.

The event will have gaming tables, slot machines and a roulette wheel. For $10, you will get $10,000 in chips to play games (sponsor tables also are available for $100 each).

Poker, Texas Hold’em, slots, craps, roulette and black jack will all be in play for the evening. Door prizes also will be given away including a trip to the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles. Beer and wine will be served and set ups will be available too.

Valentine’s dinner, jazz affair

With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, here are a couple of events to put on your radar:

For those of you who want a night of romance and jazz, renowned saxophonist Dean James will be playing sweet tunes at “A Harlem Night of Sweet Romance at Club Sugar Ray’s” at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at A Brighter Day Arts & Event Center, 8030 FM 1765, Suite A-102, in Texas City.

The night will include a three course dinner prepared by Chef Arthur Thomas, drinks and poetry by Dedrick Johnson and music by Will Stinson as well.

Grand happenings

The Time Jumpers will be performing at 8 p.m. Feb. 11.

The Nashville-based 10-piece band featuring Vince Gill, “Ranger Doug” Green, Paul Franklin, Brad Albin, Larry Franklin, Andy Reiss, Kenny Sears, Joe Spivey, Jeff Taylor and Billy Thomas, has been nominated for a Grammy and has performed on some of the country’s biggest stages.

Then at 5 p.m. Feb. 12, the Broadway musical “Pump Boys and Dinettes” will take the stage at The Grand.

The Tony-nominated musical will feature ballads, honky-tonk, rock ‘n’ roll, blue grass and country music.
