KEMAH — What’s the quickest way to get from one side of the Kemah Boardwalk to the other?
You could walk, but that is only as fast as your legs can carry you.
This fall, you can zip your way across Kemah’s tourist draw while riding the Iron Eagle.
The 400-foot-long chair zip line will rise up to 100 feet into the air and will offer riders a different view of the Boardwalk and Galveston Bay.
“The Iron Eagle is a perfect fit with the existing ride mix that has established the Kemah Boardwalk as a popular family destination,” Mark Kane, regional director of Landry’s Theme Park Division, said.
“This zip line model addresses a family appeal fitting well with our property dynamics and overall theme that we offer something for everyone.”
One or two riders will sit side-by-side in a chair lift that will be pulled backward as they prepare to zip over the Kemah Boardwalk.
Once the ride reaches the top, the Iron Eagle will change directions and zoom forward at 30 mph, returning back to the ground to complete the flight.
Iron Eagle riders will experience the sensation of flying while accelerating down a suspended cable.
The ride starts near the entrances of Landry’s Restaurant and Lighthouse Buffet and will soar above the Boardwalk Inn, Kane said.
The Iron Eagle is scheduled to take flight in mid-September.
