GALVESTON — While the Galveston Reads 2014 selection, “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson, tells the story of the nearly 6 million African-Americans who migrated from the South to the North or West, Bernadette Pruitt’s recently published “The Other Great Migration: The Movement of Rural African Americans to Houston, 1900-1941” concentrates on the same migration into the Houston area in the first half of the 20th century, making it a perfect complement for Galveston Reads 11th season book.

Pruitt, a professor of history at Sam Houston State University, will present her slide show and lecture at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Wortham Auditorium of Rosenberg Library, 2310 Sealy Ave. This program is free and open to the public.
