Kozmic Pearl to perform at Kemah Car Show and Crawfish Festival

If you’ve always wanted to travel around the world, then you can do just that by stopping by College of the Mainland’s annual International Festival from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the gym on its campus, 1200 Amburn Road, in Texas City.

The free event will feature food from around the world and cultural performances, such as Japanese dancers and a Native American flutist and music.

‘The Importance of Being Earnest’

What do you get when you have two young gentlemen living in 1890s England who have mastered the art of bending the truth to add a little spice to their lives?

Well, mosey on down to the Clear Creek Community Theatre for its debut presentation of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest,” set for 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays through April 21 at 18091 Upper Bay Road in Nassau Bay.

Billed as a “smart, sophisticated ‘comedy of manners’ with hilarious observations and put-downs from all the protagonists,” the play focuses on the main character, Jack Worthing, who has invented a brother, “Ernest,” whom he uses as an excuse to leave his boring life behind in pursuit of a young lady named Gwendolyn.

Cars, music, crawfish

The inaugural Kemah Car Show and Crawfish Festival will be from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday under the south side of the Kemah Bridge on state Highway 146 in Kemah.

The event will feature vintage cars and music from the likes of Kozmic Pearl featuring Myrna Sanders, Soul Junkies, Billy Wayde’s Mirror Images of Elvis, the Motown sounds of the Level One Band and the Allen Oldies Band.

Crawfish will be $2.99 a pound. I know a lot of y’all will like that! Other food and wares will be sold, too.

Admission is $8 per person, and children 12 and younger and military and service personnel in uniform will be admitted free.

Musical comedy fundraiser

Students in the band at Santa Fe High School are inviting the public to its Branson Style Musical Comedy Fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday in the school’s auditorium, 16000 state Highway 6, in Santa Fe.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The show will feature musical parodies, zany skits and more.

General admission is $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

‘Runway to Hope’ fundraiser

The Salvation Army of Galveston County will have its third annual Runway to Hope benefiting the Center of Hope from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd., in Galveston.

The event features a style show, luncheon, silent auction and a chic boutique.
