Considered to be Galveston’s official kickoff to summer, the sixth annual Galveston Island Beach Revue will begin at 6 p.m. today and noon Saturday at Beach Central, which is adjacent to the Hotel Galvez & Spa, 2024 Seawall Blvd., in Galveston.

Today’s events will feature “Movie and Music on the Boulevard” that will include live entertainment by the Brandon McDermott Band, the introduction of the 2014 Bathing Beauties, and a free outdoor showing of the movie “Girl Happy,” starring Elvis Presley.

Saturday’s events will include “Retro-Active” games, vendor demonstrations, charcoal championship cook-off, live music and so much more that can’t be listed here.

Red, White & Bayou Crawfish Festival

Don’t forget about the city of Dickinson’s fifth annual Red, White & Bayou Crawfish and Texas Music Festival that will be from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of FM 517 and state Highway 3 in Dickinson.

The Randy Rogers Band will be the headliners.

Tickets are $5 until 7 p.m. Saturday and then will go up to $10 afterward.

Get ready to Zydeco the night away!

Deals on Wheels will present Leroy Thomas and The Zydeco Roadrunners in concert at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Front Door Club, 6106 FM 1765, in Texas City.

Tickets are just $5 per person and can be purchased the day of at the pavilion at Milton Pines Park, 4100 Mason Drive, in Sea Isle.

Proceeds will benefit the Sea Isle Planters Bunch.

GAC set to honor Eckel

Time is winding up to purchase tickets to the Galveston Arts Center annual Sunset Buffet that will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at a disclosed location.

The center will honor Susan Shirley Eckel, who contributed greatly to the growth and support of visual arts in Galveston, was a community volunteer, arts advocate and gifted monotype artist, whose work is in numerous private collections.

Tickets are $75 for members and $100 for all others, and includes beverages, buffet, and of course, a beautiful sunset.

‘Dancin’ in the Streets’

The 19th annual “Dancin’ in the Street ... Motown & More Revue, the Thrill on the Hill, Where Soul Music Lovers Meet” concerts will take place at 8:15 p.m. nightly Thursday through May 25 at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Hermann Park Drive, in Houston.

The free event will feature a Jackson Five tribute, as well as a special performance to mark the 50th anniversary of Sam Cooke’s classic song “A Change is Gonna Come.”

The wildly popular concerts have been a mainstay in Houston for the past 20 years. Donations will be accepted to help continue One Delta Plaza and BACE Productions, which are the producers, to continue bringing this family-friendly event to the masses.

Free tickets will be available daily from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the theatre’s box office on each day of the performances.
