Registration for the Galveston College mini semester, Summer Session I, Summer Session II and the fall semester begins today. Current and prospective students are encouraged to visit with advisers in the Advising and Counseling Center and to secure necessary materials from the offices of Admissions and Financial Aid at Galveston College’s main campus, 4015 Ave. Q, in Galveston.

The mini semester is a four week session of classes from May 15 through June 11. Students can earn valuable transferrable credit classes during the mini semester. Summer Session I classes start June 5, with a variety of credit classes. Summer Session II classes start July 10, offering credit classes through the second week in August. The full fall semester begins on Aug. 28 and ends mid-December.

Just for kids

Galveston College will be offering a new version of its Kid’s College programs this summer.

Courses for students ages 8-14 include Minecraft Designers, App Attack, Design Your Own 3D Video Game, Private Lessons in Guitar and Ukulele, and Cupcake Crazies. Minecraft Designers, App Attack and Design Your Own 3D Video Game courses are offered in June and July at a cost of $129 each. Guitar and Ukulele Instruction begins May 19 and runs through Aug. 10 at a cost of $99. Cupcake Crazies is offered in June and July at a cost of $99. Introduction to cybersecurity

Galveston College Continuing Education is offering a new course in Cybersecurity. The course explores the field of cybersecurity, specifically the importance of cybersecurity, data confidentiality, best practices for using the internet and social media, and potential career opportunities in this growing field.

This 15-hour, self-paced course is recommended for the novice user who wants to have a better understanding of cybersecurity and how to protect themselves and their network. 50th anniversary commencement

Galveston College’s 50th anniversary graduation ceremony is set for 7:30 p.m. May 12 at the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd., in Galveston. About 500 students will receive degrees and certificates in a variety of disciplines. More than 3,000 parents, siblings, children and friends will come to witness the 50th commencement of their local community college.
