LEAGUE CITY — Students and parents in the Clear Creek school district will have a chance today to see early designs for the rebuilt McWhirter Elementary School.

A community meeting showcasing the designs starts at 6 p.m. at the McWhirter campus at 300 Pennsylvania St. in Webster.

The $30 million construction project is slated to begin in April and expected to finish  by the end of 2016. The designs by VLK Architects envision common learning areas, a learning resource center equipped with new technology and more.

Students and teachers will move into a section of the current facility next August as construction work begins on the new school. Classes will move into the new building in May 2016 while the remaining facility is torn down to make room for parking and athletic fields.

Voters approved the construction of a new facility for McWhirter Elementary in May, along with several other projects included in a $367 million bond referendum. Designs for a new, $39 million stadium complex were previewed last week.
