The 2014 Galveston College commencement scheduled for Thursday will be the 47th annual graduation for the college.
The ceremony will have a record 518 candidates for graduation receiving more than 580 associate degrees and certificates.
More than 3,000 family members and friends are expected to witness the largest graduating class in the college’s history.
The commencement ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Galveston Island Convention Center at The San Luis Resort, 5600 Seawall Blvd, in Galveston.
‘Mozart and Music’
The Galveston College Chorale, directed by Mike Gilbert, will perform a “Mozart and Music” concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moody Methodist Church, 2803 53rd St., in Galveston.
The event is free and open to the public. The performance will be comprised of works by Mozart and a variety of musical selections that use the word “music” in the title and text of the piece.
Register for 2014 summer, fall classes
Galveston College registration for the 2014 mini-semester, Summer I and Summer II sessions, as well as the 2014 Fall semester is now in progress.
Registration hours are 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Mini-semester classes begin May 19, Summer I classes begin June 9, Summer II session classes begin July 14 and the Fall semester begins Aug. 25.
Summer hours start May 19
Galveston College will begin summer hours on May 19 and be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for office hours and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for classroom hours.
The Learning Resources Center and David Glenn Hunt Memorial Library will be open 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The college will be closed Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Summer youth classes
Make plans for kids and teens classes this summer as many of these classes fill up quickly.
Most classes will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for one week each.
Classes range from ages 8-12: Lego Mania, Cartooning — Super Heroes and Story Writing, Cookie Crazy, Make and Take Robots, Mars or Bust. For ages 13-16: Going Viral, Are You Work Ready?, Making Mobile Apps, C.S.I. Amateur Detective, Auditioning Hints for Your Talent, Amazing Technology.
Classes are reserved on a first-registered, first-paid basis. All fees must be paid at the time of registration.
Registration fees are per class or per camp and include the supplies needed in each course, unless additional supplies are listed.
Students who are outside of the age ranges listed will be placed on a waiting list. Registration will be open as long as there is space in the class.
Class prices range from $99 to $110 each.
