The new Galveston College Charlie Thomas Family Applied Technology Center will hold an open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 2.

The open house event will feature faculty and staff connected to the Center’s programs of cosmetology, heating ventilation air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical and electronics technology, welding technology and medical administration and medical coding.

Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the facilities and talk one on one with the faculty and counselors connected to the programs.

Registration for Summer II and fall classes continues

Registration for the 2014 Summer II session, as well as the 2014 fall semester is now in progress. Registration hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Summer II session classes begin July 14 and the fall semester begins Aug. 25.

Cake decorating

Whether you want to learn cake decorating just for fun or it’s your dream to own a cake decorating business, you will be delighted with this class.

Your instructor decorates cakes professionally and loves working with students to learn the art, as well as those who wish to further their expertise.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of cake decorating from baking a great cake to making and using different icings.

Learn about specialty designs, coloring, cake writing techniques and how to make fancy borders.

The last class ends with a cake show to display your work to family and friends.

Students must provide their own cakes and supplies. Costs will vary depending on your preferences and will be discussed at the first class.

The registration fee is $89. The class will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8 through July 31.

Leadership Galveston 2014-15

Galveston College, in partnership with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, has set dates for the new Leadership Galveston course for the 2014-15 class.

Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Sept. 19, Oct, 17, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 16, Feb. 20 and March 13. The cost is $350 per registrant.

Acceptance into the program is based upon potential leadership skills, involvement in community affairs and concern for the future of Galveston.

As civic, business and government leaders tackle current issues, a new generation of leaders is training to overcome the obstacles that will arise.

Leadership Galveston is a training ground, providing participants with the necessary skills to meet those challenges.

Prospective students must complete the College’s Leadership Galveston application and the Employer’s Certification forms found online at www.gc.edu, under the Schedule of Classes and the Public Affairs subsections.
