Ogechi Ukazu has been named band director at Clear Creek High School, and Austin Brake has been hired as the new band director at Austin Magnet Middle School in Galveston upon the retirement of longtime director Doyle Neuwiller.

Ukazu has a bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of Houston and a masters of music-conducting from Sam Houston State University.

Before coming to Clear Creek, Ukazu spent the past two years as a graduate teaching assistant at Sam Houston State University. Before that appointment, she taught in the Spring Independent School District for four years.

Brake is one of the three featured composers for the Hong Kong Band Directors Association. He is a recent graduate of the renowned West Texas A&M University School of Music in Canyon.

Looks like Austin will have a great year. Hard to follow a great like Neuwiller but, looks like GISD made a good catch.
