From welding to art to music, join a wide array of classes to further your skills.

Courses in professional and technical training — mechanical maintenance, child care and health care — help individuals meet their career goals. Students may qualify for financial assistance for these classes.

Individuals can also explore new interests with physical fitness, fine arts or foreign language classes. Classes are held at the main campus in Texas City or the COM Learning Center-North County in League City.

Senior adult classes open for registration

This fall, try one of College of the Mainland’s cutting-edge art or technology classes offered by the COM Senior Adult Program and open to adults of all ages.

Explore a new art form with stained glass, quilting or jewelry-making classes, or learn conversational Spanish.

Senior adult classes are offered at a nominal cost for adults age 55 and older and are open at an additional cost to any student 18 and older.

Also open for registration, senior trips offer a chance to explore history at the Spindletop Boomtown Museum, uncover genealogical history at the Clayton Library or bird-watch at the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge.

In addition, senior lectures offer how-tos and up-to-date research on relevant topics including health, home security and driver safety.

Classes are open to adults of any age, but trips and lectures are open only to those 55 and older.

iPad, iPhone classes

Showing participants how to unlock the full potential of their device, iPad/iPhone for Beginners is an opportunity for participants to learn and ask questions.

Students will discover how to upload apps, take photos/screenshots, make videos, upload iTunes cards, organize photo albums, upload a calendar and address book and use maps, FaceTime, iMessage, Skype, Facebook and Twitter. Participants should bring their iPad or iPhone to this hands-on class.

The cost is $15 for seniors, $130 for in-district students and $135 for out-of-district students.

Life story writing class

Learn to tell your story and leave a written legacy in this workshop. Discover how to write your story for your family members with these creative writing tips and suggestions.

The instructor will offer assistance and editing help in recording personal stories.

The cost is $15 for seniors, $42 for in-district students and $47 for out-of-district students.

The class meets Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the COM Learning Center-Delmar.
