Because of an editing error, a front-page story in Sunday’s edition about an investigation into complaints at the Galveston County Animal Resource Center included a quotation that was improperly attributed to Sheriff Henry Trochesset.

County Judge Mark Henry, not Trochesset, said that based on his own inspection, allegations of animal cruelty appeared to be exaggerated.

Trochesset, reached for comment Sunday, said: “The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating allegations of neglect from the animal shelter. The investigation is not complete at this time.

“Upon completion, we will meet with the district attorney’s office. In the meantime, we are sending deputies with inmates to assist them with cleaning operations of the facility.”
