Students from several local high schools recently were involved in the Charles T. Doyle Leadership Program.

On behalf of the Texas City ISD Foundation for the Future, I would like to thank former Mayor Chuck Doyle, his family and business for their generous support of the Charles T. Doyle Leadership Education and Development Series (LEADS) program.

More than 10 years ago Chuck Doyle had the vision to develop a leadership-training program for high school students. As such, the LEADS program emerged in 2000 and for 10 years has provided — twice a year — leadership training opportunities to select junior and senior high school students from Texas City, La Marque, Galveston, Dickinson, Santa Fe and O’Connell. LEADS is focused on developing leadership opportunities with the local business community.

Attending the 2014 spring LEADS event was an amazing experience. The outstanding presentation by Mary Ellen Doyle, who beautifully encapsulated the Doyle family background, business development and commitment to community, served to underscore how blessed and fortunate we are to live in Texas City.

I am convinced that the LEADS program, under outstanding leadership, has effectively enhanced the leadership traits of over 3,500 students. It is our hope that LEADS will continue for years into the future as a legacy of Chuck Doyle’s vision; one that goes beyond category.
