LEAGUE CITY — An apparent hit-and-run driver killed a 45-year-old man riding his bike early Thursday morning, police said.

Shortly after the fatal wreck, a video camera nearby captured what police say could be the driver suspected of hitting the cyclist.

The victim, who police identified as Kevin Ronald Munson of League City, was riding his bike in the 1900 block of East Marine Bay Drive at about 2:30 a.m. when he was struck by a car.

A passing motorist saw the man in the road, but did not witness the collision. That driver called police and stayed at the scene until emergency responders arrived.

Munson was taken by ambulance to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center where he died. Police obtained video from a security camera at the guard station at the entrance of Waterford Harbor subdivision near Compass Rose Boulevard and West Marina Bay Drive.

The vehicle appears to be either a gray or silver four-door passenger car, Sgt. Reagan Pena said. The driver, who police are calling a person of interest, is wearing a baseball cap, jeans, T-shirt and a white or light colored zip-up hooded jacket.

The video shows a woman pulling into the entrance before getting out of the car. She is then seen struggling to remove the lining from inside the driver’s side wheel-well of her car.

At one point, the apartment complex security guard comes out and helps the woman remove the car part, which the driver places into the trunk of the car before driving away.

Anyone with information about the fatal hit-and-run should call League City police Det. John Griffith at 281-338-4167.

Just before midnight Thursday, LCPD posted on Facebook that they had found the person of interest, but didn't release any details.
