Portable bathrooms

A cyclist passes one of the portable bathrooms on the seawall last week. A reader points out that right beside the portable bathrooms is the only portacan accessible to the disabled, with the door broken off the hinges.

In Galveston, city officials said they hope that a $6 million plan to improve amenities on the seawall be complete by July 2015.

Included with the front-page story (“Seawall Upgrade,” Daily News, July 6) was a picture of a portable bathroom.

Right next to it is the only portacan accessible to the disabled that I know of.

The picture shows the door broken off the hinges. It has been that way for quite some time.

I am all for enhancements to the seawall, but the city needs to maintain what it has. What message are we sending to our disabled community?

Anytime you spend that kind of money on public facilities the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) kicks in.
