The National Weather Service declared a tornado watch in effect in Galveston County on Monday afternoon and lifted the warning before 8 p.m.

An alert declaring the tornado watch was sent at 3:45 p.m. and included Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Fort Bend, Goliad, Hardin, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange and Refugio counties.

A watch is declared when the potential exists for the development of tornadoes or severe thunderstorms. Should conditions worsen a tornado warning would be declared.
