BACLIFF — A car accident in Bacliff just after midnight left one person dead and another in the hospital.

A vehicle with two occupants hit a tree about 12:30 a.m. Saturday along the 3600 block of Walsh Street in Bacliff, said Lt. Tracy Keele with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

One woman, 39, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene, he said. He said the woman’s family was still being contacted about the accident.

The driver, Micky Beck, 39, was sent by helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch, Keele said.

He did not know Beck’s condition.

Keele said excessive speed was likely the cause of the accident. Alcohol had not been determined to be a factor in the accident but the crash was still being investigated, he said.
