TEXAS CITY — For some motorists, it was as if the sun was rising from the West instead of the East. But the big yellow and red circle spiking the Texas City skyline along Interstate 45 on Wednesday wasn’t the center of the solar system.

It was a giant beaver.

Work crews erected the 150-foot-tall road sign for Buc-ee’s travel center on the west side of I-45 near Holland Road.

As reported in Laura Elder’s Biz Buzz in Tuesday’s edition of The Daily News, the 60,000-plus square-foot store is ahead of schedule and could open as soon as late April or early May, owner Beaver Aplin said.

The store is one of the most anticipated business openings in Texas City since Tanger Outlets opened in 2012.
