GALVESTON — John Ford was awarded Platinum Honors in the Classical Division of the American Gem Trade Association’s 2014 Spectrum Awards.

The award-winning ring features a black opal Ford purchased in Lightning Ridge, Australia, in July. He named the ring “The Maxine” in honor of Maxine O’Brien, manager of the Lightning Ridge Miners Association Ltd.

The ring from the Lightning Ridge Collection by John Ford Jewelers contains an oval Lightning Ridge black opal weighing 5.76 carats accented by 2.44 carats of round and baguette diamonds set in platinum.

The AGTA Spectrum Awards is the most respected and prestigious design competition in the jewelry industry. Launched in 1984, the AGTA Spectrum Awards honors, recognizes and promotes designers whose work utilizes natural colored gemstones.
