142nd Preakness Stakes The second jewel of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown commences with the 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The course is one and three-sixteenths miles long, which is a half of a furlong shorter than Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby was run two weeks ago. Exaggerator won last year’s Preakness with Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist finishing third; ending any chance of a Triple Crown winner like American Pharaoh in 2015.

6 p.m. on HIST Gangland Undercover After a long hiatus, this scripted crime drama returns with a mini-marathon to finish out Season 2 tonight. When Operation Black Rain wraps up somewhat prematurely, Falco’s (Damon Runyan) position as an undercover operative seems doomed. Bullet (Thomas Mitchell) strikes a deal with The Devil (Steven Eric McIntyre), though, putting Falco once again face to face with a formidable old nemesis in “Black Rain.” Four more new episodes immediately follow.

7 p.m. on CBS NCIS: New Orleans A would-be Navy SEAL is slain shortly before he’s scheduled to graduate, prompting Pride (Scott Bakula) and the team to probe the training method the victim underwent, in “One Good Man.” The case makes the timing by Danny (guest star Christopher Meyer), Wade’s (CCH Pounder) adopted son, to declare he’s joining the Navy inopportune for her. Steven Weber reprises his recurring role as Mayor Hamilton. Lucas Black and Vanessa Ferlito also star.
