The Story of China Michael Wood — the genial British historian who also has presented televised documentaries covering the complete arcs of England and India — turns his attention to the 4,000-year background of another country with this new six-part miniseries. The first hour, “Ancestors,” delves far into the past to determine the roots of contemporary China. Then, “Silk Roads and China Ships” focuses on the Tang Dynasty and the arrival of Christianity in that nation.
8 p.m. on CBS Bull Bull (Michael Weatherly) revisits his past — and not a particularly happy part of it — in “Callisto.” The case of a woman (guest star Barrett Doss) battling a lawsuit over a drug patent takes him back to a Texas town where he suffered a career setback, namely the only trial he ever lost. Jill Flint (“The Night Shift”) and Sam McMurray also guest star. Freddy Rodriguez, Geneva Carr, Annabelle Attanasio and Christopher Jackson also star.
9 p.m. on NBC World of Dance The competition enters a new phase in the new episode “The Duels 1,” as the top qualifying acts from each division choose a rival, then face off in a direct elimination duel. Upon watching each performance, judges Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and Ne-Yo score each act based on such factors as artistry, precision and athleticism. The top scoring acts move forward in the competition, putting them one step closer to that $1 million grand prize.
