DICKINSON

The Dickinson Pilot Club will have its annual Fourth of July parade at 9 a.m. Friday beginning at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 4613 state Highway 3.

The parade will travel down state Highway 3 and end at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 5204 state Highway 3.

Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and there also will be a costume, bike and wagon contest.

After the parade, prizes will be given and refreshments will be served.

Also, the Post and its Ladies Auxiliary, along with the city of Dickinson, will have its 13th annual Fourth of July Celebration at 10 a.m. at the Post home.

There will be hot dogs, chips, sodas and other food concessions, served for 25 cents.

FRIENDSWOOD

The city of Friends-wood will have its 119th annual Fourth of July Celebration beginning with its parade at 10 a.m. Friday beginning at the corner of FM 518 and Heritage Drive and will end at Stevenson Park.

After the parade, food vendors and music will be available at 11 a.m. at Stevenson Park; Centennial Park music will be at 6 p.m.; and fireworks will take place at 9:15 p.m.

Public parking will not be available at Centennial Park for the evening program. Spectators must ride the free shuttle service to gain admittance into the park.

Shuttle service will be available from Clear Brook High School, 4607 FM 2351, and from Friendswood High School, 702 Greenbriar. Shuttle service will begin running at 6:30 p.m.

LEAGUE CITY

The city of League City will have its annual Fourth of July celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at League Park, 200 N. Park St.

City Council, the Parks Board and City staff will be serving refreshments in appreciation of the citizens of League City. There will be live music performed by The Symphonic Winds of League City, directed by Duane Dippel, and The Relics will perform as well.

This year the City will have a celebrity guest. Chef Sarah Penrod, a contestant on “The Next Food Network Star,” will do a cooking demonstration and sign autographs. Penrod is a League City resident and former chef to Tony Parker and Eva Longoria.

 

GALVESTON

Galveston Elks Lodge No. 126 will have a Fourth of July Barbecue Fundraiser from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at 1518 Tremont St.

Dinners are $10 per plate. Dine in or carryout will be available.

Proceeds will benefit Elks projects and charities.

GALVESTON

The city of Galveston will have its annual Independence Day parade at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a procession beginning at 45th Street and Seawall Boulevard and ending at 22nd Street.

The parade will feature floats, decorated military vehicles and performers.

After the parade, there will be a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico at 9:15 p.m. near 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard.

At 4 p.m. Friday, city crews will begin closing streets and detouring traffic in the immediate vicinity of the parade route and fireworks display.

The Friendswood Chamber of Commerce is selling raffle tickets to win a new Ford truck for $10 each through Friday. The drawing will be at 9 p.m. Friday before the fireworks display in Centennial Park. Winner doesn’t have to be present.

JAMAICA BEACH

The city of Jamaica Beach Volunteer Fire Department will have its 38th annual Independence Day Benefit Dance from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Jamaica Beach City Park, Jolly Roger Road and Bob Smith St.

There will be a live band, children’s activities, door prizes, a silent auction, and food concessions.

Proceeds will go toward the department’s equipment needs and additional education for firefighters.
