A major outbreak of Arctic air will push into southeast Texas on Sunday, bringing freezing temperatures to most, if not all, of Galveston County by Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Preliminary forecasts call for temperatures in the low 30s by Monday morning and in the mid- to upper 20s on the mainland and around 30 to 32 degrees on the island and along the bay by Tuesday morning. If this happens, it will be the coldest weather seen along the coast since 2011, as no freezing temperatures occurred in Galveston during either 2013 or 2012. A hard freeze cannot be ruled out completely for the northern half of the County with the mercury reaching the mid to low-20s in a few spots.

If there is any good news with this, it is that temperatures should warm up fairly quickly by the mid to later part of this coming week. In addition, some models are calling for damp, fairly mild conditions to linger into next weekend.
