March brought the fifth consecutive month with below normal temperatures and below normal precipitation to the area.

In Galveston, March ended with a monthly temperature average of 60.1 degrees, which was 3.3 degrees cooler than normal. Rainfall on the Island was 1.82 inches, which was 1.34 inches below normal. Galveston has seen an accumulated deficit of 9.79 inches of rain since Nov. 1.

Fortunately, rainfall has been dispersed fairly evenly. This, combined with the cool temperatures, has mitigated the impact of the drought to some extent.

In League City, the March average temperature was 58.7 degrees, which is 3.1 degrees below normal for the month. Rainfall there was 2.37 inches, which was 0.91 of an inch less than would be anticipated.

With spring in full bloom, and summer on the horizon, it would be nice to see a return of wetter conditions. The April outlook from the Climate Prediction Center does project a return to warmer than normal conditions for the month and near normal precipitation. We shall see.
