The weather seems to be somewhat of a “good news, bad news” situation. The good news is that more rain is likely over the coming seven days, with another round of rain likely by early Tuesday. The bad news is that unseasonably cold weather has again settled into southeast Texas.

A strong cold front pushed through Galveston County late Sunday, bringing rainfall amounts ranging from 0.59 of an inch in Friendswood, to 0.31 to 0.35 in Galveston and less than 0.20 near the Bay.

It also brought unseasonably cold weather, with the mercury dipping to 34 degrees on the Island and to right around the freezing mark over the northern half of the County. Light snow flurries were even reported near Palacios with freezing rain anticipated north of Houston for early Tuesday.

The next round of rain, due to set in by early Tuesday, will be set off by an upper-level disturbance expected to track across the region over the coming 24-hours. Although it will be quite cold over southeast Texas, freezing precipitation is expected to stay north of the County.

Looking further down the road, milder conditions will return by the end of the week with temperatures in the 60’s by Friday afternoon. On the plus side, another round of rain may be likely by Sunday as another cold front reaches the area.

With marginal drought conditions hanging on over southeast Texas, more rain is definitely needed as we move into spring.
