Chilly, wet weather to continue

The chilly, cloudy weather we’ve seen since November should continue through this weekend. Two upper-level systems and a couple of cold fronts will be the culprits with this latest scenario.

As has been the pattern, the rain isn’t expected to be especially heavy, although it will be welcome given the encroaching drought conditions over southeast Texas.

Regardless, I have had some friends kid me about our Seattle-style weather. Although I concede that it has been not the most pleasant winter weather, it really hasn’t been that bad. For instance, we had nine days with measurable rain in January (and one so far this month), accompanied by a monthly average of 52.0 degrees. While this seems bad by our standards, it is mild compared to Seattle’s average January temperature of 38.2 degrees and 19 days with measurable precipitation.

Looking further ahead, the latest GFS Model seems to keep this pattern going through mid-February, although it does promise somewhat milder conditions about 11 days down the road. While that milder trend would be nice, I am not buying it totally at this point, given the persistence of our chilly pattern so far this winter.

At any rate, if the weather seems too dismal, just reflect on the fact that it is modest compared to what they usually see in the Pacific Northwest!
