Paint purveyor Sherwin-Williams will celebrate its new island building on Wednesday (May 14) with a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting and 10 a.m. grand opening.

Some members of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, Galveston Economic Development Partnership, along with contractors and some island dignitaries are expected to attend the events to commemorate the store’s new home, 1014 61st St., on the shores of English Bayou.

Billy Joe Strawn, sales representative for Sherwin-Williams will attend the event, as will store manager Jackie Booth.

Sherwin-Williams has been on the island since 1935.

So, I’ve been meaning to ask, what do you think of the new building and the mural on the exterior?

I hope to have more details about the store and the mural in upcoming Biz Buzz columns.

Love the mural; like the oleanders; the building is so-so... Still wonder why they moved a mile from the old spot to what seems an odd location for retail.

Well, let's hope they have retail success. It's been so long since going to a Sherwin Williams. I think much larger venues such as Home Depot have usurped these kinds of stores for more than 3 decades or so now, since at Depot you can get things unrelated to paint products in a one-stop shop environment. Wasn't a U-Haul place there for the longest time at that location?
