It's amazing to just think the number of really great music you can listen to on the island during Mardi Gras.

For an event that is not a stand alone music festival, Mardi Gras does quite well. Just think of this: During the next few days, you can see and listen to amazing artists such as Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely at Boots on the Beach on Friday, Asleep at the Wheel at the Tremont Ball or Kool & the Gang at the San Luis Salutes Mardi Gras gala on Saturday. On Monday and Tuesday, Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen will be at The Grand 1894 Opera House.

Award-winning jazz artist Eden Brent just made a last second announcement that she will be at The Wizzard on Friday.

Those are just the big names that anyone could recognize. Then there are hardworking and entertaining local groups that often draw rowdy crowds of local friends and fans. Groups like Sam Navarro and the Lone Star Devils, Robert Kuhn, Red Cap Band, Zach Tate Band, The Line Up, Radio London, Kevin Anthony and many, many more will play across the island during the next few days.

Bands will be traveling in from places like Austin, see Wood & Wire, BitterHeart Society, Law by the Gun, or Nashville, Lee Brice, or Spring, Tx, Will Makar & The Red Line, and plenty of other towns large and small.

They've all made their way to this little island for the wild and wooly Mardi Gras party. I've heard plenty of talk, and even engaged in it myself, that there is not much of a music scene in Galveston. But looking at what the this weekend and last weekend had to offer might change your mind.

So now that all these bands are here, where do you plan to be? Hopefully out at one of the many great venues.

I'll leave you with some "Let's Boogie Woogie" by Brent and I'll see you out at a show this weekend.
