Another prominent local name may be preparing to run for mayor in May’s election.
With about 48 hours remaining for candidates to file their paperwork in order to appear on May’s local election ballot, rumors are starting to swirl that District 3 Councilwoman Elizabeth Beeton intends to run for mayor.
Beeton is term-limited in her district seat, having served for six consecutive years. But she has been coy about saying what her intentions are for the next election.
Last week, she confirmed to me that she had not made her intentions public yet, setting her apart from Mayor Lewis Rosen and mayor pro tem Rusty Legg who have both said they would not run.
About 15 minutes ago, sources began contacting The Daily News to ask whether we’d heard about Beeton’s candidacy.
As of 3:50 p.m., the city secretary had not received a ballot application from Beeton.
I’ve called Beeton to ask for confirmation, I’ll let you know if we hear anything back.
