Q: Why should voters choose you?

A:I am a born volunteer! I was a founding charter member of the ALL volunteer Clear Lake Emergency Medical Corp ambulance service in the early 70's. While being a stay at home Mom I served as the President of the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Being proud to have been born and raised in the Kemah Community, I returned home on retiring. I am ready and willing to bring a fresh perspective to my community. I want to volunteer my time to help continue the progress of the current administration that is Fair, Level, and Legal.

Q: What are your specific qualifications for the position?

A: As a current board member of the Kemah Community Development Corporation

(KCDC) this past year I have gained invaluable insight into the core of Kemah and I have first hand knowledge of the city's strengths and challenges.

Being an organizer and a goal oriented person I like to see projects completed properly. I am a good listener that can make clear decisions for the betterment of our city and I study the issues before forming an opinion. I care about the people and the quality of life our city can offer.

Q: What are the issues in this campaign?

A: Kemah has become one of the fastest growing tourist attractions due to the Boardwalk and the proximity to the water. This has brought many businesses to accommodate the tourist. We need a working balance between the residents and the businesses. Kemah is challenged with the traffic and the parking on a regular basis. This brings challenges to the Police Department, our residents and the tourist.

Q: What is your platform on those issues?

A: Strive for solutions that will maintain the quality of life and safety of our residents while supporting the businesses that help keep our taxes low. I support the extra special events parking in West Kemah and the use of the shuttles. I support a multi-level parking facility as a long term solution to our parking needs.

Q: If elected what would you do to foster a more civil tone in city politics and government?

A: Our council meetings and KCDC meetings are open to the public. I find them to be pleasant, orderly and conducted in a timely manner while following Roberts Rules of Order. The current mayor, Bob Cummins, has set a respectful example for all of us to follow.

Q: Do you support the proposal to facilitate construction of a park and ride garage or lot in Kemah? Why or why not?

A: I would support this type of proposal if it is proven to be financially sound for the city. It would alleviate current parking problems in the evenings and on weekends. Studies of neighboring cities that have this type of facility have not had any negative impacts on the cities nor have they brought crime.

Q: What plans do you have or would support to address parking problems in the city, specifically in the Lighthouse District and busy weekends?

A: I will work with council and KCDC and address each issue as needed. There are several new projects already in place to help support parking problems such as the special event parking in West Kemah, additional parking added on Texas Avenue and the use of the shuttles. The expertise of our City Administrator and the traffic studies that have been performed have brought several recommendations that are being studied.

Q: What area of city spending would you want to see reduced and why? What area of city spending would you support increasing and why?

A: Our current administration and staff has done an excellent job exploring our budget and prioritizing our needs. It would be nice if the city could lower its legal fees in the future. If any funds were available I would support an increase in the Police Department's budget.
