Q: Have you ever been charged or convicted of a felony crime? If you answer yes please explain.
Yes _____ No ___X___
Q: Have you ever sued a public entity or been sued by one? If you answer yes, please explain.
Yes _____ No ______
EXPLAIN: Personally I have never been sued nor have I sued a public entity. As a Board Member, I voted in support of the Resolution for CCISD to enter into the lawsuit against the State of Texas to recover the taxpayer dollars it took from Clear Creek ISD.
Q: Do you have any other debts (including unpaid taxes) to a public entity? If yes please explain.
Yes _____ No ___X___
Q: Will you have your home phone number listed in the phone book or your mobile number listed for the public to contact you directly?
Q: Why should voters choose you?
A. I am humbled to have served the families, teachers and staff, of Clear Creek ISD for six years. I have an indisputable record of supporting measures which directly increased student performance, reduced spending, and preserved the values of education which draw hundreds of families to CCISD each year.
A trustee of six years, have served two years as parliamentarian, two as secretary and currently vice-president of school board. I’m a very active community volunteer in many organizations that serve children - Assistance League, Communities in Schools, Bay Area Alliance for Youth and Families and long-time PTA volunteer.
I’m passionate about the education and well being of our young people!
Q: What are your specific qualifications for the position?
With ‘on the job experience’ and a performance record to show progress, I am committed to continuous improvement, not just for our students but also as a school board member.
I received a Master Trustee certification from the TASB. I am a member of the Center for Reform of School Systems and Director in the GCAASB. I’ve earned 355 of continuing hours of education since becoming a trustee. I’m deeply entrenched in this great community as a volunteer in many community-based organizations. I’ve received the highest state and national honors for my service to PTAs and was recently named the Community Champion and Volunteer of the Year by the BAAYF.
Q: What are the issues in this campaign?
A. A top priority in this campaign is to bring forward specific plans to ensure the students of Clear Creek ISD receive the best education in the nation while simultaneously maintaining public trust with tax dollars.
Q: What is your platform on those issues?
A. Whether as a parent, community volunteer, or school board member, I’ve had the opportunity to work directly with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop successful long and short range plans to ensure CCISD is a place for children to reach their highest potential. Because of this experience, my platform is about providing every child an environment where he is surrounded with compassionate educators and administrators, feels emotionally and physically safe at school, and is offered the full range of college, career and extracurricular opportunities that will make him competitive in the 21st century. Each vote I cast was/will be for making education environment better for our children.
Q: How many children do you have attending CCISD? How many have attended in the past? If your children do not attend CCISD are they home schooled or private school?
A: I am the parent of two children who went through CCISD schools; they were 1998 and 2005 graduates of Clear Lake High School.
Q: Do you favor the proposed bond referendum? Why or why not?
A: The Bond contains many much-needed updates and rebuilds of some of CCISD's oldest buildings that have cracked foundations, mold and classrooms that are out of spec with TEA requirements and other campuses with safety issues. The technology portion of bond package is a critical piece to bring our students into the 21st Century classroom. The stadium piece brings a venue for more than football - fine art competitions as well as athletic competitions cannot be held in the old stadium, and with five comprehensive high schools, games are being played on Thursday evening and require band, cheer squads and athletes to be up late on a school night.
Q: If you support the bond proposal, what assurances can you give that the money will be spent wisely? If you do not support the bond proposal, what alternative do you propose to meet the needs of the district?
A: The specified items that are on the Bond package for vote, by law, the funds have to be allocated to the construction or purchase of those items. Each Bond package in the past has been carefully monitored for providing the building, busses, and other items that were voted on by the citizens. CCISD would continue to track any new Bond package in the same detailed manner. A citizens committee worked diligently to put together a good package for the community. I respect and support their recommendation.
Q: How would you rate the leadership of the CCISD administration?
A: The leader of CCISD has been named Texas Superintendent of the Year and Texas Classroom Teacher's Administrator of the Year this school year. The Administration has consistently received the Meritorious Budget Award by the Association of School Business Officials, Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) Superior Achievement Award, and Texas Comptroller Gold Leadership Circle for Financial Transparency, to name a few.
CCISD is one of the highest ranking, large school districts in Texas - that speaks volumes about the caliber of teachers and administrators. Our students outperform their peers on all state assessments and exceed state and national averages on college entrance exams. I’m very proud of CCISD Leadership!
