Q: Will you have your home phone number listed in the phone book or your mobile number listed for the public to contact you directly?
Q: Why should voters choose you?
A: In my six years of residence in Clear Lake Shores I have always been of the opinion that I live in one of the most unique and beautiful towns in the world. I have lived in 12 municipalities and visited hundreds more both in the US and abroad. Unfortunately during these six years a deep division has occurred within the city limits I want to mend these fences. As mayor I will seek the inclusion, input, advice, guidance, and expertise of all my constituents since my opinion is that there is wealth of knowledge to be tapped. I will have an open door policy for all complaints, comments and conundrums.
Q: What are your specific qualifications for the position?
A: As a college administrator for over 15 years I have supervised multiple offices as an associate director of financial aid. Additionally in many of my roles I have supervised employees, including during certain events hundreds of volunteers or in one particular case 27 direct reports. In my last position I controlled a budget with over 30 million dollars in resources. Working as a chairman and a vice chairman on two city committees I always encountered resistance to spending on projects despite the fact that sales tax revenue in our city contributed to our general fund has been over one million dollars per year. I want to change this.
Q: What are the issues in this campaign?
A: Issue 1 – City Council and Mayoral decision to suspend free garbage pickup for citizens. Issue 2 – Selective enforcement of city code of ordinances. Issue 3 – Continual litigation brought by the city against parties that are later dismissed or lost by the city at a huge cost to the city via the accumulation of legal fees. Issue 4 – Questions regarding the budgetary practices and bookkeeping/accounting procedures.
Q: What is your platform on those issues?
A: Issue 1 – Reinstate free garbage pickup for all citizens as I believe the $32000 spent previously per year is easily affordable due to our current financial position. When this was voted down we were too broke though our year ending balance sheet for 2012 showed a surplus of over $185000. Issue 2 – End selective enforcement by all possible means, everyone is subject to a code or no one is and the ordinance is rescinded. Issue 3 – End lawsuits and find means of resolution that do not require an attorney or their expense. Issue 4 – Work with the city administrator to understand the intricacies of the budget, follow established accounting principles (candidate’s answer went beyond word limit)
