For authentic Mexican cuisine served up fresh and tasty in a friendly atmosphere, it’s time you discovered El Gusto Del Pueblo Restaurant, the gem of Mexican restaurants.
Located in Galveston, El Gusto’s menu offers diners a wide variety of Mexican dishes based on traditional recipes from Veracruz, Puebla and Yucatan, as well as Monterrey, the birthplace of Gildario “Ruben” López, who, along with his wife, Maria, owns and operates El Gusto Del Pueblo.
The brightly colored building was once the home of The Rex Café, an island eatery established in 1949. In 1991 it was established as a Mexican restaurant, then in 1998, Gildario and Maria purchased the café and gave it their own, successful touch.
Open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., El Gusto Del Pueblo serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The complete menu is available all day and special requests can be made on any plate.
The basis for any Mexican restaurant is its salsa. El Gusto Del Pueblo makes its own outstanding salsa. The homemade salsa is created from three kinds of peppers, including fresh jalapeño, habañeros and chile de arbol. The salsa is served with fresh chips with every meal.
El Gusto Del Pueblo also makes its own flour tortillas and tamales.
Especial wine from Mexico also are served at El Gusto Del Pueblo.
Anything on the menu at El Gusto Del Pueblo is available for catering. Call the restaurant at 409-763-0410 for more information.
Delivery also is available on Galveston Island with a minimum $25 purchase.
El Gusto Del Pueblo also prides itself on offering quality, cleanliness, service and value. Lopez and his staff also thank the community for all their support, especially after Ike.
“We’re still in business because of local support,” Lopez said. “We are grateful to the people who support us and hope they will keep coming back. ”
El Gusto wishes everyone a happy holiday season and they hope to see you at the restaurant soon!
