More than 20 years ago, Tom and Betty Postell, known affectionately as “Papa” and “Nanny,” started Heaven Sent Day Care in their home with the goal of providing a safe, educational and fun Christian environment for the children of Galveston County. Today, although the day care has grown by leaps and bounds, they still are upholding that promise.

Nestled on five country acres in Santa Fe, Heaven Sent is more than just a child care center. It’s a place where all children — from infants to 12-year-olds — find love and guidance, learn to respect themselves and others, build a strong moral foundation, and find new adventures in learning and fun every day.

If you walk around the Heaven Sent grounds, you’ll find “The Barn,” which is the Western-themed main facility for children ages 2 to 12. Infants and toddlers to 18 months find safety and comfort in their facility, known as the “Lil’ Bunkhouse,” as well as the adjacent “Chuckwagon,” a brightly colored cafeteria with child-sized tables.

During the school year and throughout the summer, Heaven Sent places a high priority on educational activities. In their preschool program, children get helping learning their ABCs, colors and numbers, and other grades take art, music and science classes. No matter what their age, appropriate learning activities are experienced by all.

In addition to typical classroom teachings, Heaven Sent also places an emphasis on learning about our country, including saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day, and learning about Jesus Christ. A prayer is said before every meal at Heaven Sent Day Care.

But it’s not all learning and no fun — not by a long shot!

During the hot summer months, Heaven Sent echoes with the sound of children playing outside in the pool, engaging in a variety of sports activities, and participating in crafts from tie-dyeing shirts to woodworking.

On days when much-needed rain comes or the heat is just too much, the day care’s 1,200 square-foot game room offers pool tables, Ping-Pong tables and other exciting activities to keep kids of any age happy and engaged.

Between on-site activities and field trips, which in the past have included outings to Moody Gardens, bowling and laser tag, Heaven Sent is more like a day camp than a day care during the summer.

Tom and Betty have been residents of Santa Fe, where they raised five boys, since 1981. Most of their family still lives in the area. They are thankful to all of parents who have shared their children with Heaven Sent Day Care over the years and remain committed to providing the highest quality care for the children of Galveston County for many years to come.

Heaven Sent Day Care is located at 15911 Fir Road in Santa Fe and is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information, or to enroll your child, call 409-925-8393. Visit Heaven Sent Day Care on Facebook today!
